At GLXG, we’ve put together some common questions to make testing feel easier. If you can’t find what you need here, just click on “Still can’t find what you are looking for?” at the bottom of the FAQ list below, and we’ll be happy to help.
After you've paid the invoice, we will post/courier your kit to you within 2 working days (not including weekends). Test kits usually arrive in United Kingdom in 3-4 days, Europe 1 week, outside of Europe timing can vary for 1-2 weeks.
If you need an express courier, please let us know at the time of ordering.
Your kit will include all the tubes or equipment required for the test(s) ordered. If it is a blood test, it will also come with a butterfly needle and vacutainer tube. For urine and stool kits, you will receive equipment to support the collection of your sample(s) (e.g. urine cup, stool paper).
Your kit will also include instructions on how to arrange the DHL Medical Express courier to pick up your sample for delivery to the laboratory.
We will send you a test kit that includes the correct number and type of tubes for the specific tests you have requested.
For tests requiring a blood sample, you will need to schedule an appointment with a nurse, doctor or phlebotomist in your local area. Your local nurse/doctor may require you to pay for the blood draw to fill the test tubes. You are responsible for paying these costs.
For other samples (e.g. urine, saliva, stool), you will provide the samples at home using the supplied equipment.
When you are waiting to receive your test kit, you will need to contact us if the test kit hasn’t arrived yet. We will help you.
When you have sent your kit with your sample back to the lab, you can check if it has arrived by using the DHL Waybill number to track its travel time.
DHL Waybill numbers are a unique 10-digit air waybill number (not consisting of any letters) in the 'tracking number' field of the DHL website. The up-to-date status of your shipment will be generated with the latest status on the top-most field.
All test tubes have an expiry date which can vary from six months to a few years. This depends on batch of tubes that were delivered to the lab by the supplier, and also the contents of each tube which can have varying lengths of viability.
GLXG verifies all test tubes to ensure that they are valid for a few months from the date of your order to allow you time to test. If you have had the kit for more than 6 months, it is possible that some of the tubes have expired. If this happens, please get in touch and we will assist you.
Test results are usually emailed direct to your doctor within 2-4 weeks depending on the number and type of diagnostic tests done and any test culturing or complex diagnostic analysis required. However, the majority of tests are available within 10-14 days.
If you ordered as a direct patient, you will be emailed the test results directly. All test results are sent as encrypted PDFs.
If you are booking an appointment with a doctor to discuss your results, please allow for this timeline so that your doctor has the results in time. If you need to know specific timings on tests, please contact us.
It is the responsibility of your doctor or specialist to take the test results we provide, and combine them with any other testing or information you have provided during your appointment to give you an interpretation and diagnosis.
The responsibility of the laboratory is to test your sample and provide you with data driven results and ranges. The Lab Director will always be responsible for validating your test results before they are released as a final report. Sometimes you will find that the Lab Director will make comments next to your ranges. This is to help guide the doctor/practitioner interpreting the test results but should not be taken as a diagnosis as they are a supportive guide only.
GLXG does not validate or scientifically verify test results before they come to you. Our role is simply to perform a quality control check focused on report presentation, language accuracy, and confirming the ordered tests are included and validated.
If you do not have a doctor, specialist or practitioner to support you, please let us know. One of the roles we play is connecting doctors and patients together, and we can suggest people that can speak to you regarding interpretation, diagnosis and possible treatment if needed.
We do not take any legal responsibility for the recommendations we make as we are not connected legally or financially to any of the clinics that work with us, nor do we receive any remuneration that would give us a bias.
We therefore place the responsibility of the decision about who to see with you, the patient, and what you would like to have from your health journey.
All samples listed below must be shipped via DHL Medical Express courier, provided by us, on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday only.
Blood samples should be taken on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday morning only. Blood needs to be shipped the same day as it is taken. Store at room temperature until pick up.
Saliva samples are often done the day or night before shipment – please follow instructions within your kit. Store at room temperature until pick up.
Urine samples can be done the day before shipment, and refrigerated until pick up. Keeping it at room temperature on the day of shipment is fine.
Stool/faecal samples can be done up to two days before shipment, but must be refrigerated until pick up.
Please ensure you read all instructions in the test kit box as instructions may vary depending on the test ordered.
If you are sending multiple samples back ensure you plan the timing of each to coincide with pick-up at the same time, so they are all included in the same DHL courier bag.
You do NOT need to fast before testing, unless we have specifically asked you to. You can eat and drink as normal.
We advise that you avoid too much alcohol or caffeine the day before. It is also important to stay well hydrated in the 48 hours before your testing. This will make it easier and more comfortable for you for your blood to be drawn, particularly if you have low blood pressure.
We build our kits with the exact number of tubes you need to fill. Please fill all tubes so they are 80-85% full. Incomplete samples cannot be processed. Re-testing may incur additional costs.
Put your blood tubes immediately back in the packaging ready for shipment. Get your kit ready for pick-up. Remember blood must be picked up the same day it is taken by your nurse/phlebotomist.
Keep your blood at room temperature.
It must NOT be refrigerated, frozen or centrifuged.
The temperature of the human body varies by person, time of day, and measurement method, generally ranging from 36.1°C to 37.2°C (97°F to 99°F). This means that for a blood sample to remain viable for many of our specialist tests, it needs to be kept slightly warm. But, do NOT place near a radiator, and on a hot day, ensure it is kept in a cooler area of the room.
Yes, you must always pre-book your DHL Medical Express courier pick-up time. We recommend calling the day before to ensure they have logged you on to their system and can give you an approximate pick-up time.
Your sample will be collected from your nominated address on the same day as any blood taken or within 24 hours of saliva, urine or stool being collected. Samples usually arrive at the lab within 1-2 days of DHL collection, depending on country and any flight patterns at the time (weather/disruption).
We have noticed over time that different countries have different patterns of daily pick-up times, and sometimes DHL do not arrive at the time they have specified. If you are concerned that DHL are running late, please call DHL Medical Express direct as they are a third party supplier, and we cannot control the route or times they collect from.
Your DHL Waybill number can be found on the shipping address label (inside the clear plastic wallet on the supplied 'Overpack' DHL bag).
This is your tracking number. Write it down before you have your package picked up so that you have it as a reference number.
Before testing a blood sample for the specific ordered tests, the laboratory performs a comprehensive quality check. This check verifies two critical aspects:
Samples that pass this initial assessment proceed to testing, while those failing the quality check are rejected.
We pride ourselves on higher-than-normal cell viability counts because we only want to test blood that will give a good representation of what is going on in the body.
